Metal Fabrication

Why is important to have a professional background in metal fabrication.

Onsite Welding NSW has drawn it’s experience in metal fabrication as a direct result of years of experience working for large multinational companies producing equipment and products in house as a contractor. Having a solid background in the welding industry as well as mechanical engineering industry  this enables us to tackle civil, mechanical, structural and arcitectural projects.

In previous contracts we have been the main supplier to large Australian companies unbeknownst to them as our client required us to operate under their logo.

What is metal fabrication?

Metal fabrication is the process of cutting, drilling, bending, welding various types of cross sectional steel products and sizes of steel. The process of cutting steel onsite by means of oxy/LPG cutting, friction saw, plasma cutting and cold chisel. The majority of drilling onsite is used by broaching via magnetic base drill where possible alternatively oxy/LPG cutting is used where drilling is not practical. Bending is generally done cold where possible to reduce distortion and loss of structural integrity where this is not possible heating the steel with oxy/LPG is mandatory for ease and speed and cost effectiveness however this is time consuming and results vary.

Welding is a key component to metal fabrication whereever it be steel, aliminium or stainless steel. The parameters must be instinctive to achieve a high level of quality. This can only be achieved through proper training and practical experience at a high level.  The process of assembling that is commonly refered to as “joining of the metal” through various applications i.e welding, threaded fasteners, riveting and adhesives.
